If you are looking to volunteer, I recommend checking out the food bank. They provide gloves and masks, if needed. We bagged avocados and potatoes. It was so rewarding knowing that we were helping to feed families in need.

I absolutely love volunteering at the Food Bank in Raleigh. As a chef, this is a great way for me to give back to my community through food. I love food, I love people and giving to others is my passion. My family and I have been blessed through these trying times of Covid so we wanted to find a way to say thank you. The Food Bank hits all of those points of empathy for us. Also I love the logistics of the operations. Thats kinda my thing. Trying to understand how they organize all of those 10000s of pounds of food everyday. I worked the Food Drive and Client services end of the process. I like interacting with the people. It feels good to see that those huge pallets of food actually get into the physical hands of those that need it. Next week Im going back with my daughter to work in the garden for a few hours as well. The staff was super friendly, practiced social responsibility and safety as well. Overall great place to volunteer. Keep up the good work! Ill be back with more of my family and friends thank you! Sean Andre'

Love volunteering at the Food Bank, it's easy to sign up with a group or as an individual. They have various activities and various lengths of shifts throughout the day. I love that the Gateway Plaza has opened next door so it's easy to grab lunch or a drink after volunteering with a group. And they give you measurable ways to know exactly how much you helped but telling you the amount of meals you've prepared. Highly recommend to any group or individual looking to get a little more involved with their community. Just remember your close-toed shoes!

The food bank does such good work and is a lifeline for so many people. Knowing that my donations end up here in their capable hands always feels good. I happened to be here for an NCSU project and was surprised to see just what a large facility they have. I had no idea the scale of the operation, but it stands to reason given the broad area they serve. Just knowing that the food drives that so many of us participate in are well managed and put to good work is comforting.

This place offers a great volunteer environment. I came here for the first time with my alumni club on a Saturday morning. There were several groups attending the 4 hour session. A food bank representative gives a detailed yet short introduction to the food bank including the service area, how food arrives and departs the facility and the impact of volunteers in accomplishing their goals. We were taken to the warehouse area to sort different kinds of potatoes. They explained how to sort the produce. At the end, they did a wrap up explaining how much food was sorted in the session, the number of meals it will produce and when it will leave the facility. I returned on my own a couple weeks later on a Wednesday evening. This is 2 hour session. I helped sort cucumbers and of course potatoes. Most volunteers come here solo. Their website explains the walk-in volunteering and how to sign up as a group. This is a wonderful idea for families, groups, and individuals. While you're working, you just strike up conversations with the people around you. Before you know it, you'll be done. The entire experience is well organized.
